BACKGROUND

The internet has changed so much about our lives; it’s hard to imagine a time without it. Of course, one of the main things the internet has altered is the way we buy. How we discover, research, and ultimately purchase products is entirely different from even a decade ago. To succeed, great marketers need to stay ahead of the game to meet consumers where they’re hanging out and present an offering in a way that will be well-received.

Why Fashion?

The fashion industry is a big market for investing and is growing. The number of eCommerce fashion stores is growing every year. 

In 2020, U.S. retail e-commerce revenue from the sale of fashion apparel, footwear and accessories amounted to an estimated 110.6 billion U.S. dollars and is projected to grow to almost 153.6 billion U.S. dollars by 2024.

In 2021, there are anywhere between 12 to 24 million online shops. There are currently over 2.14 billion global online shoppers. There are over 2.1 million online retail stores in the US in 2021.

A RETURN COST ONLINE FASHION STORE $10 to $100

 

Consumers that return products to Amazon cite similar reasons why they return a product compared with returning products to other retailers, such as damaged items and the product didn’t appear as it did in the photo. However, sizing and fit was a much more common reason consumers said they returned online orders to non-Amazon retailers, at 46%, compared with returning products to Amazon, at 34%. Numbers don’t add up to 100% because of another response.

A size Small in one store could be a Medium in another – understandably, this can make online shopping confusing and stressful. It also makes shoppers crave the offline opportunity of trying clothes on to be sure of the right fit.
